A Tolkien Society Local Group for Walsall and the Black Country | ||||||||||
Lothlorien is the new Black Country Smial or local group of The Tolkien Society, based in Walsall but welcoming fans of the books of J.R.R. Tolkien and the Lord of the Rings films of Peter Jackson, from across The Black Country. Lothlorien aims to provide a focus for Tolkien activities in the Black Country, primarily but not exclusively for Tolkien Society members. Lothlorien is named in honour of Walsall Arboretum, the towns famous tree park, and of J.R.R. Tolkiens woodland elves. Lothlorien activities depend on the interests of the members, but may include quarterly meetings, perhaps with discussions and readings, in a pub and in the Arboretum under the trees with the possibility of other gatherings in relevant Tolkien locations, and possibly activities at Walsall Central Library in association with the Library Service. Events will be either free or self-financing. Lothlorien outings to Birmingham and The Tolkien Trail, possibly working with other local groups, and attending national meetings of The Tolkien Society and conventions, will be organised as required and costs will be payable on an individual basis accordingly. Lothlorien membership itself is free of any local subscription, and does not require any forms, just a simple sign-up procedure so that we can keep in touch with members. If members choose to subscribe to The Tolkien Society, they may do so direct at the usual rates. Lothlorien is taking on new members now so please sign up!
